Opening Title Sequence for our Thriller

The opening titles which inspired me were the titles of 'SE7EN'. This is due to the consistency of titles and the way that they complimented what was happening on screen. Rather than the typography being uninteresting or plain which the audience may easily ignore, the typography fit the atmosphere the titles were creating. This is because they had a scratched or etched quality and were gritty which matched the music and the shots being displayed.

The titles were inspiring as they linked to the way I would like to film my own opening titles. The idea for my own Thriller opening titles is dark and has a sense of horror which is similar to the 'SE7EN' titles and the typography and shots are similar to what I would like to use. The titles reveal parts of the film's story line through blurred and jittering imagery. This gives the impression of distorted vision and has links to psychological issues. The titles give an impression immediately of the type of film it is going to be which is what I am aiming for when filming my own Thriller opening titles. The titles create an enigma and are mysterious while clearly showing that the film is going to be sinister and contain some horror due to the dark lighting and images of gruesome injuries. The consistent typography confirms the films genre: Psychological Thriller.

These titles influence ideas for my own opening titles. They have given me ideas such as having the titles appear on different objects and this is because objects play a key part in the 'SE7EN' titles because they give hints to the story line and are the main focus through out the sequence. Also, the main typography has also inspired me to have my own thriller opening titles main title a similar way because it gives a twisted and emotionally unstable impression.

I am also inspired by the way the 'SE7EN' titles use colour as a main feature in the sequence. They use black & white or sepia filters which leaves very little colour exposed but they bring interest to the sequence by adding the colour red at different points. The colour red is symbolic and represents danger and blood. I would like to use this idea because it suits the general story line of my opening titles and I think it is very effective in the way it brings attention to certain objects, catches the attention of the audience and hints that  violence or danger may be a subject in the film.
